Kublai Khan Takes Over

Kublai Khan Takes Over

Hangzhou- Kublai Khan takes over his grandfather’s job. Kublai Khan’s grandfather Chinggis Qan had died and Kublai Khan was ordered to take Chinggis Qan’s job as being a leader. His grandfather, Chinggis Qan had died from old age and soon after his death the Southern Song had fell in 1279.
Kublai Khan’s brother, the Great Khan Mongke, sadly wasn’t chosen to be leader. He told us, “ I think that my brother will make a great leader, just like our grandfather.” The famous traveler Marco Polo told us, “ I can say that he could make a good leader, but with all my traveling I know he will be a good leader an I hope to develop a good partnership.”
Ming Rong, a villager who lives under Kublai Khan’s rule told us, “ Kublai Khan is not a nice man. I didn’t  trust his grandfather and I won’t trust him! He will ruin everything that the other villagers and I have worked our entire lives to have. I am not going to let him ruin our people!”
Kublai Khan was born on February 18, 1215. He was the second son of Tolui and Sorghantan Beki and the grandson of Genghis Khan. He had claimed the title Khagan of the Mongol Empire in the year 1260. In 1264, he had won the battle against Ariq Boke. In 1271 he had established the Yuan Dynasty, which he could rule over present day Mongolia and China as the Emperor of China. In 1279 Kublai Khan became the first non-Chinese Emperor who conquered all of China. Kublai Khan will become a great leader.

Kublai Khan will be the Best Emperor that China has ever had!

Kublai Khan will be the Best Emperor China Has ever had

In 1279 Kublai Khan became the first non-Chinese Emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. He took over his grandfather, Chinggis Qan’s job as a leader. It benefits the people of China because they are in the hands of a new leader who will hopefully follow in his grandfather’s foot steps.
One reason why Khan will make a good leader is because Kublai Khan was the first Mongol ruler throughout all of China. A new type of ruler will bring new ideas to China. Another reason why he would make a great leader is because he is taking over his grandfather’s job and everyone says that he was a great ruler of the Yuan Dynasty. One last reason that he would be a good leader is because the Mongols were very tolerant of the Chinese traditions. For example some of the traditions were Confucianism, Buddhism, art and drama.
Some might think that he would be a horrible ruler. One reason that people could disagree with me is because some Chinese could have not liked any of the rules that his grandfather made when he was in power. The opposing opinion is wrong because he is following his grandfather’s foot steps and his grandfather was a very good man and a wonderful ruler.
Again, in conclusion everyone thinks that he will make a great ruler because his grandfather was a great roll model throughout his entire lifetime.

Who is Shi Fu?

My interview with Shi Fu
By: Molly Munger

Q: What different types of poems did you write about?
A: I wrote about lots of different things. Some of the things that I wrote about were the different people, the places I have visited and I wrote about a friend of mine named Li Bai.

Q: What were some of the different things that you liked to do when you were younger?
A: Well, when I was a kid, one of my favorite things to do was read. “ I read ten thousands of volumes until they were worn out.” That was one of my most favorite things to do when I was younger.

Q: What would you say that your poems represent?
A: I would say that my poems represent the hard realities of the war, people dying right next to some of the rich rulers and the primitive rural lifestyle of many different people.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration for writing your poems?
A: I got my inspiration from all the daily things that I see happen. I watch people get hurt and I find it very unfair.

Q: What’s your opinion on Confucius?
A: I mean he was kind of a bad guy in ways but I mean I don’t like to judge people.

Traveling to the Yuan Dynasty

Yuan Dynasty Map
By Molly Munger

In the Yuan Dynasty, Mongolia was not a separate country.  The border of the Yuan Dynasty went beyond the border of Mongolia.   The Southern Song had the city Hangzhou and the Yuan dynasty took over most of modern day China.  The Southern Song controlled less land compared to the Yuan Dynasty.

My life; My story of the Yuan Dynasty

Journal Entry

I woke up in cozy bed to a loud racket outside. I looked out and there were two older men fighting. My mom came into my room and told me that is was just my father and our old neighbor. I got dressed and went outside and down the street to where my aunt was working at a silk farm. I never got to see my family that often because they were always busy working. So it was nice that my mother let me go and see my aunt.
Later that evening, I sat down with my mother, father and little brother for dinner. All of my family believed in Daosim. For dinner we had chicken and white rice. It was really good. My favorite part of the meal was the white rice. What I loved most was being able to sit with my father, wrapped in a warp blanket that my Nana had made for us.
In the morning I got up and changed into clothes that my mom had given me. They were a pair of black pants with a nice top. After I was done, I went into my little brother’s room and helped him get dressed so that we could go enjoy the warm summer breeze while it was still happening. I loved being able to roam free and not having to worry about anyone but myself.
The governments rules weren’t that different from the different parts of China. If we were to disobey the government there would be charges against us. What I hate most is not being able to be my own person. What I mean is I feel like since we have rulers, we can’t do anything that we want to do.
Everyday seems like nothing ever changes. The only thing that changes is that I notice that I love my family even more then I ever did before.
